  The best adventure of our trip <3 we didn’t take a tour, we made a family.. we can’t say enough about their knowledge, friendliness, and in depth secrets they shared.. this trip was safe, FUN, and adventurous!   If I could give 10 stars. Heidi and Josè were nothing short of Amazing. Their safety for me and my children were above and beyond. 2 years ago I did this tour with a different company we will leave nameless. I ended up breaking 3 ribs jumping off the cliff and then collapsed my left lung.
Now H&J made us wear life jackets and helmets!!! If I had a life jacket I would have been safe. They were prompt with answering all our questions. The were on time. They told us so many facts and they are local!!! Beyond family friendly. They took so many pictures for us. My children are going to miss them. We seriously just clicked.

  Jose and Heidi are the perfect tour guides. Their number one priority is your party’s safety. They give you life jackets and helmets which other companies doing tours do not always do. They pick you up for breakfast to make sure you are fed and ready to go! Most of all Heidi and Jose are extremely caring towards your groups needs and will make sure to stop and help you throughout the hike. We loved them!

  Thankful for a memorable experience with Heidi and Jose. From the meeting point, where we met Jose, to we had a delicious breakfast sandwich with coffee and juice. It was way more than I could eat, but, I didn’t want to stop, at the same time.
Next we loaded into the van to head to Yunque with a stop along the to pick up Heidi and head to the Forrest.
I loved their uniqueness and how much they loved their homeland! It wasn’t a scripted $30 tour…it was a special day!! You just have to go with the flow and let them do their thing and you will be blown away with your day! We learned all about how they lived during Hurricane Maria without power or water for 6 months. Learned about medicinal and edible plants, even got to try some unique fruits of Puerto Rico that Heidi picked off the trees along the way. I got out of my comfort zone and went down the natural water slide with the encouragement of my husband and all our new friends we met!
After the adventure, we went back to their house for a quick change to dry clothes and Heidi showed us around her yard as she was growing several different things! We even walked over and met a neighbor to see his avocado tree!   And then we headed to the local market for lunch. We had fresh cold coconut water and a delicious authentic PuertoRican lunch. I was really sad when the day ended as it was my favorite adventure of the trip. Thanks again for a day to remember.

  My family and I had an absolute amazing adventure thanks to Heidi, Cayson and Mitchell!  When we signed up for this we had zero experience and we weren't sure what to expect other than viewing lots of cool photos.  The photos we viewed matched up to the adventure perfectly!  Heidi and her team were A+ with safety, they made sure we all had life vests, helmets, water and snacks!  H & J Tours picked us up from our hotel in San Juan, drove us over to Fajardo, treated us to an amazing "local" breakfast and then started our adventure!  We climbed on the side of mountains, walked through rivers, swung on ropes, jumped off cliffs and got a full history and detail of the rain forest  every step of the way.  I went with my wife and two children (10y / 15y old), they had just as an amazing time as we did, we would absolutely do it again when we are back in PR!  After the tour was over Heidi took us to get cleaned up then took us to a little place along the highway on the ride back to the hotel to get lunch, it was so much fun and the food was so good!   She also ended the day with us by taking us into many small towns and showing us cool details of each town and even introducing us to some locals!  So much fun, very impressed with this tour, we were not sure what to expect like i said in the beginning but we made so many awesome memories that day, can't wait to return and do it again!
PRO TIP: Make sure to read the FAQ on their website prior to going on the tour, its important you wear the right hiking/trail shoes, no crocs or flip flops or sandals!  Also, we saw so many other tours and the people on the tours had no helmets or life vests, just goes to show you that H & J took our safety very seriously!

  FIVE STARS!!!!! Where do I even begin! I left for PR last week with the most excitement I have ever felt! I was going to do a bucket list item.... the rainforest! I came here to this site and asked everyone for their opinion on the best tour guide PR had to offer. Your suggestions did not disappoint!!! Heidi from H AND J ISLAND ADVENTURES was everything and much more than I ever expected from a tour guide. She went above and beyond to show us the beauty El Yunque had to offer. We hiked, swam, jumped from high rocks, slid down a slide created in nature, and swung into the water from ropes. Not going to lie... the excursion was a bit tough but she pushed us to the limit knowing just how much we could all handle. I felt very safe with her and her assistant the whole time. The places she showed us were magical and I loved going super early in the am before all the other tourist got there! Heading out there first thing in the morning was the absolute best as we had the whole forest to ourselves. After the nature tour she had many surprises up her sleeve, like authentic puerto rican food from a local vendor and a stop that included large coconuts that we needed for hydration. . I simply can't recommend her enough. Her knowledge of the forest combined with the support she offers the locals and their businesses can't be like any other tour company out there! I recommend choosing the private tour if you can. It really made me happy to know the tour fee was going to support local businesses as well as her own. I could go on for hours about how much of an incredible day was but I will leave it for the next post as I WILL be hiring Heidi to take us on our next tour again real soon!   We really enjoyed our tour! It was amazing from beginning to end. Heidi and Jose are great people and has everything organized to a T. You don’t have to worry about anything when you’re touring with them, even down to breakfast! They treat you just like family, I feel like I made friends with them. The hike was challenging but good. They really have it set up for you to succeed and give you a lot of time to enjoy the rainforest ahead of the rush.
